Expert Depression Care · Oldsmar, Florida

You do not have to face depression alone. Melody Higgins, MSN, PMHNP-BC provides compassionate, evidence-based depression treatment and medication management for individuals throughout the Tampa Bay area.
Depression is more than feeling sad. It is a medical condition that affects how you think, feel, and function in daily life. If you have been struggling for weeks or months, professional help can make a real difference.
Many people in Oldsmar and the Tampa Bay area live with depression without realizing that effective treatment is available. Depression can look different from person to person, but common symptoms include:
Depression is not a single condition. There are several types, each with unique characteristics. Melody provides individualized treatment for all forms of depression.
Also called clinical depression, MDD involves persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest lasting at least two weeks. It can significantly impair work, relationships, and daily functioning.
Previously known as dysthymia, this form involves a chronically low mood lasting two years or longer. While symptoms may be less intense than MDD, the prolonged duration can be equally debilitating over time.
SAD follows a seasonal pattern, most commonly beginning in fall or winter. Even in Florida, changes in daylight and routine can trigger depressive episodes that benefit from professional treatment.
Occurring after childbirth, postpartum depression goes beyond the typical "baby blues." It can involve severe mood swings, exhaustion, and difficulty bonding with your baby. Early treatment is essential for both parent and child.
Effective depression treatment often requires a combination of approaches. Melody develops a personalized plan tailored to your symptoms, history, and goals.
When appropriate, medication can be a highly effective part of depression treatment. Melody prescribes and carefully monitors antidepressant medications, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), and other classes of antidepressants. Dosages are adjusted over time based on your response and any side effects.
Beyond medication, Melody provides supportive psychotherapy sessions where you can explore the thoughts and feelings contributing to your depression. These conversations help you develop healthier coping strategies, identify triggers, and build resilience in a safe, non-judgmental environment.
Depression affects your entire life, not just your mood. Treatment at TellMel considers sleep, nutrition, exercise, relationships, and stress. Melody collaborates with your other healthcare providers to ensure every aspect of your well-being is addressed as part of your recovery.
A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse with specialized graduate training in psychiatric and mental health care.
Melody Higgins, MSN, PMHNP-BC is licensed to diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe psychiatric medication, similar to a psychiatrist. PMHNPs complete rigorous education and clinical training specifically focused on mental health, making them uniquely qualified to manage conditions like depression through both medication and therapy.
The "BC" in PMHNP-BC stands for Board Certified, meaning Melody has passed a national certification exam administered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This certification demonstrates advanced knowledge, clinical expertise, and a commitment to ongoing professional development in psychiatric care.
Unlike providers who only prescribe medication or only offer talk therapy, Melody combines both in a single appointment. This integrated approach means your medication management and therapeutic support are coordinated by the same provider who knows your full history and treatment goals.
Your first appointment is a comprehensive evaluation designed to understand your unique experience with depression and develop a treatment plan that works for you.
Schedule your initial consultation through our secure online booking portal. Before your visit, you will receive intake forms to complete at your convenience. These forms cover your medical history, current symptoms, and any medications you are currently taking.
